Michele Miller & Holly Buchanan: The Soccer Mom Myth - Blog Business Success Radio

Bloggers Michele Miller and Holly Buchanan, authors of the important new book The Soccer Mom Myth: The New Reality of Marketing to Women, explode the myth of the soccer mom as a target market. They share the real truth about marketing to women online and offline, to help build your business success.
Michele Miller and Holly Buchanan are my internet radio show guests on Blog Business Success; hosted live on Blog Talk Radio.
The show airs live on Thursday, April 3, at 8:00 pm Eastern Time; 5:00 pm Pacific Time.
Michele Miller and Holly Buchanan describe the real facts about marketing to women on the internet and in the bricks and mortar world. You will learn:
* Why marketing to women is the new mainstream marketing strategy
* How to understand gender differences in buying patterns
* Why you should market to women as individuals
* How to make your business more friendly to female buyers

Michele Miller (photo left) has been an explorer her entire life and has great stories to show for it. A classical musician by training, she holds degrees in education and business administration. She has worked for companies as small as Diapers Unlimited delivery service (where she discovered the true meaning of customer service and loyalty) and as large as The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, and Sirius Satellite Radio. She also devoted seven years to growing her own public relations firm in New York.
Michele is now a Wizard of Ads partner working with extraordinary people and enjoys the opportunity to merge her professional background with her personal principles. She maintains a powerful roster of dynamic small businesses across North America, and is an international speaker and teacher on the topic of marketing to women.
Michele Miller blogs at WonderBranding: Marketing to Women.

Holly Buchanan (photo left) is the Senior VP of Client Services at Future Now Inc., a leader in website conversion and persuasion architecture.
Holly began her career in the radio industry as a copywriter and creative director. It was the perfect training ground for the work she does today. Holly worked with over a thousand clients. (that's right - averaged over one hundred every year) They had five radio stations with formats ranging from adult contemporary, to country, to alternative rock. In her meetings with businesses of all types, Holly got a hands on view of what copy spoke to those different audiences, what worked and what didn't.
Holly Buchanan blogs at Marketing To Women Online.

You know what's funny is I ran into this the other day. Kinda...
I'm a stay-at-home-dad who works from home, and a bunch of us SAHDs met at a new place for our kids to play.
The place had been open one day and it was one mom and 7 dads. The new owner cam over and told us all of her consultants and testing told her to market to moms and moms only.
She said she'd have to rethink this now...

Hi Mark. You are right. Marketers have to stop looking at stereotypes and traditional roles. The world is changing; and societal changes are happening at an ever faster pace. Successful marketers must think of speaking to individuals and not some stereotype that may not even be true.
Mark,
Marketers suprise me as they seem to act in an homogenised way today.
I suppose too much is at stake if they make a wrong call on something.
But innovation requires new thinking and fresh ideas and people tend to love a great new idea even if generally they are used to the same old.
Great blog!

The "fit" between Holly and Michele on this is great. I have spent several thousand dollars attending classes at the Wizard Academy and FutureNowInc to get this information from the Michele/Polly horses' mouth. Their book is state of the art - ignore it at your peril.
By the way, Happy Birthday, Michele.
